Blown Glass – Hollow Forms
Artists generally associate blown glass with vessels (drinking glasses, bowls, vases) and architects think of glass block. Guild Glass will offer products that blur these two descriptions. Our utilitarian products will be artistic, and our artistic products will be more utilitarian in nature. Our hollow forms will be used for interior and exterior walls, hanging screens, and artistic assemblages.
Fused and Slumped Glass – Sheet Forms
We will not make plate glass for windows, but we will recycle window glass. Our sheet glass products will have form and texture created by slumping and fusing glass in our kilns. Sheet forms can be used for exterior rainscreen, interior partitions, and signage.
Cast Glass – Solid Forms
Molten glass can be cast into sand, plaster, wood, metal, and other materials. We will use them all in our Hot Shop, selecting the right mold material for the shape desired and number of units required. Solid forms are heavy, allowing them to be used in many cases without integral attachment mechanisms. We envision cast glass paving units for parks, solid blocks laid with reversible mortars, and furniture.
Hybrid Glass Products
Since we offer all three processes in-house, we will be able to fabricate complex designs that require multiple processes.
Cold Working
In addition to our Hot Shop, we will have a full Cold Working Shop in-house offering grinding, carving, engraving, and polishing. If a design includes an element better rendered via cold working, we can create the products with hot processes and finish them with cold working.
